Holocaust survivor-guides Kitia Altman and Abe Goldberg were recently honoured with an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) following the Queen’s Birthday award announcements.
Kitia has been involved with the Jewish Holocaust Centre for over 20 years, has been at the forefront of the Centre’s ‘Custodians of Memory’ program and has made an inordinate impact with her timeless messages of ‘Never Again’. She was instrumental in having Alfred Rossner recognised by Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, as a ‘Righteous Among the Nations’. Her story of survival during the Holocaust inspired Neil Cole’s play ‘The Trial of Adolf Eichmann’.
Abe Goldberg has served the Jewish Holocaust Centre since its establishment in 1984 and has been a board member since 1989. In addition to his ongoing commitment to the Jewish Holocaust Centre, he has been active in the work of the The Jewish Cultural Centre and National Library ‘Kadimah’ and Sholem Aleichem College.
A celebratory afternoon tea was held at the Centre to honour Kitia and Abe.
