Keynote Address by Professor Frank Vajda, Melbourne
Prof Vajda is a Holocaust survivor who was saved by Raoul Wallenberg. He is the author of Saved to Remember: Raoul Wallenberg, Budapest 1944 and After.
How do we encourage the younger generation to walk in the footsteps of Raoul Wallenberg? The Australian Embassy in Stockholm, together with the Jewish Holocaust Centre and the B’nai B’rith Raoul Wallenberg Unit in Melbourne, Raoul Wallenberg Academy in Stockholm and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law at Lund University, invite you to participate in a seminar with speakers and students from Stockholm and Melbourne to honour the memory of Raoul Wallenberg.
Sue Hampel OAM, Co-President of the JHC and Australian delegate to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) will be part of a Swedish panel discussion to examine ways to ensure that Wallenberg’s actions inspire civil courage among younger generations, at a time of growing concerns about antisemitism, xenophobia and racism. Sweden’s Minister for Education, Anna Ekström will also be speaking at this event.
