Testimonies

The Centre’s collection includes more than 1200 testimonies of Holocaust survivors, providing a personal eye witness account into the horrors of the Holocaust. They also build a picture of communities which once existed in Europe but have since disappeared.

The project began in 1987 and has become a fundamental research resource.  The collection is available for educational purposes, documentaries and museums.  Copies are sent to Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and the Holocaust Museum in Washington.

If you would like to give your testimony or know of someone who is interested in giving a testimony, please contact Phillip Maisel on (03) 9528 1985 or email: testimonies@jhc.org.au.

The Centre is currently working with the Steven Spielberg Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation to provide access to digital versions of testimonies including 2,500 interviews taped in Australia by them between 1995 and 2000.

Below is an example of the video testimonies we collect from survivors of the holocaust.

This testimony is from Mrs Genia Rovi describing such events, and was taken on the 19th of September 1998 at the Jewish Holocaust Museum and Research Center, by Mr Phillip Maisel as part of the Oral History Project.

The testimony is given in both video and audio format, and you may stream, or download these files by clicking on the appropriate links, or by clicking on the Play button on the embedded players below.
