Lecture: 'Failing to Understand Failure: Reassessing the Evian Conference of 1938'

Guest Speaker Professor Paul Bartrop will be giving a public lecture on “Failing to Understand Failure:Reassessing the Evian Conference of 1938”

July 2018 marks the 80th anniversary of the Evian Conference on refugees from Nazism, which has long been identified as a ‘failed conference’ and a ‘lost opportunity’ to save the Jews of Europe. In The Evian Conference of 1938 and the Jewish Refugee Crisis (London, Palgrave MacMillan, 2017), Dr Bartrop offers a critical assessment of this view.

Currently a Visiting Fellow at the Jewish Holocaust Centre, Dr Bartrop is Director of the Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Genocide Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University. His publications in the field of Holocaust and Genocide Studies are well-known.
