CALENDAR OF EVENTS for 2019

JHC Flicks will be screening the documentary "Unlikely Heroes" (2003) 120mins, (Austrlia/Israel). Directed by Richard Trank. Narrated by Academy Award®-winner Sir Ben Kingsley, Unlikely Heroes chronicles the yet untold stories of Jewish resistance and individual heroism throughout the Nazi Holocaust. The film utilizes rare film and photos discovered in archives across Europe, and enhanced by weeks of newly filmed sequences in the locations where many of these stories actually occurred.

JHC survivor guide, Ivan Jarny - who was a member of the partisans, will speak following the screening.

HOLOCAUST EDUCATION AT THE JHC

The Jewish Holocaust Centre is offering a comprehensive 12-week course on the Holocaust commencing on 26 February - 20 May 2019. Topics will include Pre-war Europe, Nazi policies and their implementation, Liberation and much more.

Australian Premiere Screening of "The Paper Brigade" (52 mins) Belgium.
Directed by Diane Perelsztejn.

The moving story of how a small band of Jewish poets and writers saved priceless collections of Jewish books and manuscripts from destruction during the Nazi occupation of Lithuania, and then again during the Sovietisation of the Baltic states. Includes rare archive interviews in Yiddish with members of the Paper Brigade, including Avrom Sutzkever, Shmerke Kaczerginski and Avram Zeleznikow (founder of iconic Melbourne restaurant “Scheherazade”).

JHC Flicks (formerly known as the JHC Film Club) will be screening the movie: The Testament (Ha Hedut) 2017, 88 mins.

Yoel, a senior Holocaust researcher, has dedicated his life to diligently studying the Nazi's methodologies across Austria and Hungary. Over the course of his research he discovers classified documents which hint to the fact that his mother is living under an assumed identity.
